About the program
Free summer math practice for neighborhood kids, taught by three sisters — Reeha, Aashmi, and Aashna — who love math and wanted to share it.
- Small groups, sorted by grade. Kids work with others at the same level, so nobody feels lost or held back.
- Short and regular. Two to three sessions a week, 45 minutes to an hour each.
- Practice over lecture. Mostly working problems together, with help whenever someone gets stuck.
- Calm and friendly. Because the sessions are led by students, we keep them small and focused.
- Always free. There has never been a charge to any family, for anything.

We planned small groups, as the poster says. Being our first summer, five children joined — few enough that we could give each one their own sessions and fit the times around their family's schedule. With more kids we would run small groups as intended.
What we covered
Because sessions were one-to-one, we taught to each child's math level rather than to their grade, and to what they wanted or needed to work on. Here is what the children covered.
- Multiplication
- Area & perimeter
- Clock times
- Classifying shapes
- Rounding
- Fractions
- and more
- Long division
- Complex multiplication
- Adding & subtracting fractions, with like and unlike denominators
- Decimals — adding & subtracting
- Creating and analyzing bar and line graphs
- Improper fractions & mixed numbers
- and more
- Divisibility rules
- Clock times
- Graphs
- Long division
- Area and perimeter for complex shapes
- Prime factorization
- and more
Coming back in Summer 2027
The girls plan to run Rooted in Math again next summer, with everything they learned this year built in. Same idea: free, small groups, sorted by grade level.
Bookmark this page — the signup form will be posted here when it opens, usually in late spring.
Sign-ups for Summer 2027 are not open yet.
How did we do?
If your child joined us this summer, the girls would love to hear how it went. It takes about two minutes, and you can skip any question.
